Be it traditional artisans, textile producers or jewellers, India’s local craftsmanship and manufacturing units are now witnessing a substantial gain during this season. In fact, as per a recent report featured in NDTV, the wedding season will contribute about INR 75,000 crore to tax revenues. The CAIT wedding report India campaign confirms this by adding that jewellery will be the biggest expense to the overall wedding expenditure with a total of 15% contribution.
CAIT’s Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal has shared the main expenditure areas which as as follows:
1. Clothing (Sarees, lehengas, apparel)
As a 10% contributor to the Indian wedding economy statistics, clothing plays a major role in the economic growth. Both men and women are curious to try new styles that elevate their shaadi fashion aesthetics. With multiple events from satsang to mehendi to the wedding day, both bride and groom are choosing homegrown labels for their wedding functions.
With brands and outlets like Kalki Fashion, Manyavar, Tasva and Pernia’s Pop-up Show, it’s not difficult to find the perfect outfit as per your personality, aesthetics and themes. Talking about themes, theme-based clothing is taking over the Indian wedding shopping trends. Brides-to-be have an entire picture in their mind – think minimal theme which calls for neutral hues like beige or ivory and shades of blue which demands colors like navy blue, powder blue or aqua.
2. Jewellery
With a 15% contribution, jewellery stands at the top of the list for retail demand during the wedding season. Even though the gold prices have increased, this didn’t stop people from spending luxurious on jewellery and other accessories. From fine jewellery choices like solitaire ring, rani haars, polki chokers to artificial jewellery like floral jewellery, handmade hathphool and gold-plated studs, Indian wedding attendees are taking their jewellery game very seriously. Brides can also find the latest jewellery designs at Wedding Asia exhibitions held pan-India.
Modern brides are embracing traditions with timeless jewellery pieces. Brands like Kalyan Jewellers, Indriya and small-scale businesses selling floral bridal jewellery can expect a significant increase in their sales as they have earlier this year. Wedding shopping and jewellery sales have gone up, especially in the capital which provides access to markets like Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk and Lajpat Nagar – making Delhi’s contribution to India’s wedding economy much more prominent.
3. Electronics and Appliances
A significant contributor to the wedding economy – electronics and appliances add approximately 5% to the marriage season economic impact. The wedding shopping list includes kitchen appliances, mobile phones, laptops and personal care products. While celebrity brands like Wonderchef are focusing on launching affordable home and kitchen gifts for weddings, bigger outlets like Vijay Sales are constantly releasing big discounts on appliances such as refrigerator, washing machine, large audio and smartwatches.
Wedding guests prefer gifting the couple toaster, mixer-juicer or ovens. In fact, coffee machines have seen a massive increase in sales after air purifiers and smart home devices. Dyson’s recently launched range of home appliances has also made it to the list of India’s wedding expenditures.
4. Tent Decoration
The event management companies are going all out with the décor. The rise of India’s wedding industry post-Diwali season is a result of income spent on crystal chandeliers, wedding reception tables, hanging fabrics and rattan lamp shades. From earthy haldi theme to Punjabi dhol night, couples are spending massive amounts on tent decoration and event management which contributes to a total of 10% estimated revenue from Indian weddings in 2025.
Couples are opting for tropical wedding tent design to vibrant outdoor wedding decor. From embroidered drapes to net white decorative tent curtains, 2025 has seen it all! And event planners are pushing lacy fabrics, pearl detailing, floral garlands and boho chic canopies – for all the right reasons!
5. Catering Services
Weddings and gourmet food goes hand-in-hand. Premier catering services have contributed upto 10% to the wedding business boom India has witnessed. Couples are opting for appetisers at cocktail hour and full meals with friends and family. From delicious culinary ideas to live dessert counters, couples are going all out with wedding catering services.
The most trending menu ideas are multicultural menus (global fusion), tailored menus for catering to dietary preferences, sustainable catering solutions, midnight snack bars, regional cuisine stations and personalised, sentimental touches.
